Hello all!

I am Alan and I live in the Dallas, Texas area.  I am 46 years old and have been playing guitar since I was in the eighth grade but I am sad to say that I am not nearly as proficient as I wish to be.

In high school I really just learned songs(probably to try to impress girls) and it really limited the rate at which I progressed.  I took a several year break from playing but then when I started again I re-committed myself to learning all of the things I had overlooked for so long.  I did take a year of music theory in high school which really has helped me a lot over the past decade.

Flamenco guitar really took me by storm and I spent a while learning techniques of that style and I am very glad I did if nothing else for the way in which my right hand works.  I love the rhythmic and finger picking styles that are used and enjoy playing around with all of that still.

Being from Texas one of my greatest guitar heroes is of course SRV.  And it was studying his playing that I really found interest in blues style of playing.  I also studied Gibson's learn and master guitar series which is a great resource.

But I have to say that after finding Roberts you tube channel I probably have learned more from the short time studying his lessons than from any other single source.  I finally feel that I am learning my way around the fretboard in a way that I had always hoped.  If only I had this resource years ago!  Who knows where I would be now.

Having exhausted the youtube channel I finally have taken the plunge and signed up for this full website and I am very excited to dig into some of these lessons more deeply.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you and hope to take my playing to another level of fun and excitement.

Have a great day!

Alan S.

Texas!  Welcome, pardner.   So much music comes out of the Lone Star State.

Thanks for the welcome.  I'm really excited about studying your courses in depth.  Everything I have watched and learned from you has been really fun which makes it that much better.  To me that is what you have going for you more than the fact that you're an incredible musician.

Any advice on how to take a good video?  I really only have my Ipad to do this with at home.

Thanks,

Alan

Hey Alan,

Welcome to you.  and welcome to another Gibson Learn and Master refugee!  I also studied it and it was my beginning "general" study material until I found Robert's site.   In fact, I'm still a moderator over at the new site, Guitar Gathering.

Agreed GL&M is a great resource for "generalist" type studies to get started.  But we have found the right place to take us to that next level.

@matonanjin

I do still practice the 7th arpeggios from L&M but Robert's site and channel has me hooked.  Plus there is something about paying that keeps me a bit more influenced to practice more regularly.  I also seem to be able to spend my time in a more advantageous way being able to study things like dominate 7 triads and comping the blues.  It's really helped me know where I am on the fret board.

Hope to see you around!
