Hey thanks everyone!

In the hope of something better, I made a second try. Sadly, when the camera is rolling is when mistakes happens, so it's still not perfect. I completely missed a riff there, but the rest is OK I believe.

I used my looper pedal for the rhythm witch I recorded also myself.

No editing on the video, so it's a bit ruff. Also, I believe my amp was a bit too loud for the mic because the sound is muffled on the video. But in real, it was loud trust me (Fender Hotrod Deluxe on 2)!

@redfloyd

There's an improvement in that one. More of a flow. And your bends are wicked! Very nice!

I just caught this fine submission.  I have to agree with Craig's remarks, the playing is definitely coming along with more flow.  Looks like you are close to making your sound a reality.  Throw off the chains and let your flag fly.

Nice work playing against your own loop- that's big medicine.

And as far as that HR volume 2 issue, I just tamed my HR Deville with some tubes and caps that made a huge difference in modest controllable volume.  Message me if you want details.

Cheers!

Hey that is really good! Better flow in the second video for sure. I think you might benefit from an overdrive pedal on this one, because some notes are held for a while - sustain needed.

How hard is this solo?

As always, go for the overall ideas, but do modify/simplify licks if need be, so that you can focus on the flow. The licks are just a framework really - I want everyone to add their own ideas to ALL solos.

I was wondering, have you got it memorized or are you reading from tab as you are playing?

@robert

Hey Robert, thanks for your comments!

On the second video, I was playing by memory, so maybe that helped a little to have a better flow. And you are correct, I was straight to the amp, without a pedal. I can try to add Tubescream to help sustain.

As for improvising, I don't feel like I'm there yet. I believe I should practice more the scales and transpose. One day I will submit a video with some impro, but not today I guess!

I have made a little noodling over jazzy riff. Nothing fancy, the main goal was to start to get used to improvise over a backing track.

Here it is (link to another thread of the forum):

I am still working on "you got to help me - solo 2". However, this one a harder than the first one, more practice is needed. It's especially difficult because we have to play faster and I'm rushing with that. Any tricks to help play faster?

There aren't any tricks to playing faster, although what technique you use makes a difference. I find using hammer-ons and pull-offs makes it easier for me to play faster lines than if I try alternate picking.

@redfloyd

I think learning to play fluidly and smoothly is far more important than learning speed.  Smooth playing develops ones musical ear on many levels helping to develop improvisation.and tonal nuance.

Give me a beautifully manicured Gilmour or Clapton style riff any day!  To my ear super fast playing just sounds like a bee in a beer bottle! 😎

Sounds good. Good timing I felt.

September 15th practice

This week Robert had announced a special on the Robben Ford style funky blues, so I gave it a try. It's pretty fun! I have recorded the rhythm part and the first intermediate solo. I have to admit that I'm pretty proud of this recording. Kudos to Robert for the great lesson! Keep 'em coming!

On a side note, do you prefer when I share files from Google Drive of from Box? I guess Box is fine for everyone because this is what Robert uses in his lesson. Also, do you prefer .m4a or mp3 files?

In the meantime, I'm still munching on You Got To Help Me - advanced solo. Planning to check out funky blues advanced solo as well.

Have a nice week all!

Sebastien

Hey everyone! I'm still around!! I had big changes in my life and it took me quite a while to be able to get back at the guitar..  I must admit I have missed Robert's lessons quite much!

So I was able to do a quick pratice over YL20 D minor blues solo lesson.
