Minor Triads Licks

It’s no secret that I often tell students that triads is my “secret”. It’s a simple, powerful concept to make sure you hit strong notes as you play lead guitar.

In this example, I’m using triads to build two similar licks for Am and Dm, respectively. Then the 2nd time, I alter the phrases a little bit, so that I’m building on what I started. The last lick goes up higher in the register, and it ends in a way that makes it clear that I’m done with these two phrases.

This is how I approach phrasing. It’s a way to tell a story, and you can use this concept as well, regardless of the lick details.

Hope you can dig it.
