I just checked in before I have to run off to work. I'll be looking forward to this until I got home tonight and have a chance to check it out... but I will say in advance...

Thanks Bob Dylan

Thanks Jimi and

Thanks Robert.

I always thought this was a cool tune!

Well it's back to the Jimi rhythm shed- I always rush to the embellishment rather than slip in, and tend to add a note rather than let the flourish breathe.

And, yes, while I have fairly big hands, I seem to be over stressing on the Hendrix Thumb Over Grip while holding the GBE Strings, like a novice putting the grip of death on barre chords.  I see John Mayer holding that grip EZ Peazy.  How about a little more insight on the mechanics to this grip, RR?

That thumb over grip is going to land me with the physical therapist.  I see 9 other members checking out this excellent lesson- anybody making progress or hitting bumps on Watchtower?

This is rough but in the spirit of spreading the inspiration I'm sharing my practice session recorded on iPad through the onboard mic.  I did employ a GB drummer but recorded bass and guitar direct from speaker to iPad.  I left in my whispered count (which I still did not get the timimg quite right) and my extra squeaky cry baby pedal.  Hey, its a jam and I'm throwing it around to get the feel.

Folks, I'll work this a lot better but this is how I get there:  Clocktower

Well done Clayton. Not sure what pproblem was with the thumb, but the rhythm shed seems to have straightened it out. Great soloing also. Jimi would have been proud of this one.

Keep up the great playing bud!

Gentleman- many thanks.  I am happy about the increasingly easier manner in which I can pick up a tune, break it down to an arrangement, and throw a performance together blending rhythm packets and some solo work.  I truly feel like I am moving toward my state goal of creating funky blues rock jams. All of this, and mostly recording through the process along with my live practices with another musician, really push me along to becoming a musician and performer.

Dats cool Clayton. A bit different rhythm, but that's fine. Still groovy!

Thanks Boss Man, I'm still working on it.  Jimi's rhythm patterns, especially the fills, elude me, but I'll keep on truck'n.

I'm gonna tune this upside down and inside out to get that Vibe right. Peace!

Marinating is not just for food prep.  After 5 weeks I just came back to this lesson while getting some morning porch practice.  Its a fantastic summer day here and I was happily rewarded with return to playing this lesson.  I'm often more relaxed and able to dial in the details once I've let new material sit and marinate after tenderizing my fingers and internal timing.  This time around I was able to look closely, listen better and play the rhythm details more accurately and musically.

I have to make. Reminder system to revisit materials after they've been sitting on the shelf a while.
