Here's the solo I've been working on. I'm really busy next week and going away next Sat so I thought I'd post it today.

So this solo is totally inspired by solo 2 in Robert's Scales You Can Use.....one of my favourites. But it also includes licks from Get Close, Stretching the Blues solos and a couple from my own lick library (a very small one by the way). It uses the 3rd, 6th and 9th colour tones a lot which happens to be my favourite sound these days. I'd like to add another 12 or 24 bars to it down the road sometime. Not happy with the tone....but I never am....haha.

So here it is. Thanks for listening.

Very nice Ivan!

You did a fantastic job with this and your hard work shows.

The tone is fine, but you are like I am, never satisfied. A lot of it depends on what speakers the listener is using. I play and record in two different rooms in my house and my Logitec speakers with sub woofer sound completely different in each room.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

Ivan

You did a great job on this, as always. Excellent. I think tone is fine but is likely something we all chase around and want to improve. I'm looking forward to the next 12 bars...!

Outstanding, Ivan, your playing is really picking up momentum and depth!  First, that was a well thought out solo compilation, and Second, the left hand work was really nice with double stops, slides, excellent use of pinky on the four fret spread, and more of that damn vibrato that continues to escape me.

And the choice of 6ths and 9ths is always sweet to my ears.  Well, that throws me back to Deep C Studios for more woodshed.  Excellent inspiration, Amigo!

Have a great trip and try not to air guitar too much while your gone.

Thanks Chris. You're right about the tone. I really need to stop doing that....haha.

Hey Clayton, thanks bud. Yeah dont know why but the 6th and 9th are just sounding sweet to me lately ...... must be BB in the back of my mind. Looking forward to what's brewing in studio C!

Well one week before I leave so I need to work on some rhythm.......

Thanks again guys

Keep on it, Mister; that was seriously good stuff.

I've taken a big interest in playing 6ths as double stops of scale notes, either in gospel slides or 3 step progression.  Very musical to my ears.

Fan-bleeding-tastic! You have improved so much Ivan. It's a joy to see and hear.

So what can we learn from this? The answer is applying yourself. We all know a bunch of licks, there is plenty of instruction and ideas available, but you have to do a bit of work to create your own thing. Take ideas from me, anyone, including your own - and build your OWN solo this way.

Ivan has just shown us how it's done. Now, it's your turn.

Sweet playing Ivan. Nice bluesy attitude. You put together a nice mix of blues expressions - double stops, bends, vibrato. Well done. Keep jamming.
